ʔukłaamaḥ suuwayaqawilth, hupačasatḥʔaqsup (my name is suuwayaqawilth, I am a woman from hupacasatḥ)

I learned how to bead when I was ten years old. I was taught the basics of beading and other weaving methods from the Aboriginal Support Worker in Gill School. I am thankful to still have a connection with that teacher today.

I practiced threading needles with my late grandma, whose name I now carry. My grandma was a seamstress who was well known for sewing and embroidering beautiful shawls and vests for ceremonies and special events. Her mom, my great-grandma, was a basket weaver whose creations I use for inspiration.
